Position Summary:
The Paraprofessional supports students, teachers, and site leadership in maintaining a structured, supportive, and productive learning environment. This role assists students with academic tasks, reinforces school expectations, supports daily classroom routines, and helps students stay engaged in their personalized learning program.
The ideal candidate is patient, dependable, student-centered, and comfortable working in a technology-based learning environment. This person can build positive relationships with students while maintaining clear expectations, structure, and accountability.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support students with online coursework, assignments, lessons, and daily academic tasks.
- Assist with one-on-one, small-group, tutoring, intervention, orientation, and review activities under the direction of instructional staff.
- Help students understand lesson instructions, assignment expectations, and learning activities.
- Assist with basic lesson materials, practice activities, and student support resources as directed.
- Help students access and use educational technology, including the LMS, digital curriculum, student dashboards, and school-approved platforms.
- Utilize school-approved technology platforms, educational software, and AI-supported productivity tools in accordance with school policies and guidelines.
- Build positive, professional relationships with students to promote engagement, attendance, persistence, and academic success.
- Encourage daily participation and attendance by maintaining regular contact with students throughout the school day and notifying leadership of attendance concerns.
- Assist in supporting student retention efforts by encouraging engagement, helping students overcome barriers to participation, and connecting students with appropriate school resources when concerns arise.
- Monitor student engagement, attendance, behavior, and progress during the school day.
- Redirect students professionally and reinforce school rules, classroom expectations, and appropriate behavior.
- Support de-escalation efforts and assist in maintaining a calm, safe, and productive learning environment.
- Document student concerns, interventions, and notable observations using school-approved systems.
- Communicate with teachers and site leadership regarding student needs, concerns, and progress.
- Support student arrival, dismissal, transitions, testing, and common-area supervision.
- Assist with school events, student activities, orientations, enrollment initiatives, and other operational support activities as assigned.
- Maintain professionalism, confidentiality, and a safe, respectful learning environment.
Required Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; associate’s degree, bachelor’s degree, or related college coursework preferred.
- Demonstrated reliability, punctuality, and consistent attendance.
- Ability to work effectively with high school students, including students who may be behind academically, disengaged, or facing personal barriers.
- Basic computer skills and ability to learn school technology systems.
- Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to follow directions, implement procedures consistently, and work as part of a team.
- Ability to maintain professionalism, confidentiality, and positive relationships with students and staff.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a valid Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working in a school, youth program, tutoring program, or alternative education setting.
- Experience supporting at-risk students, credit recovery students, English Learners, or students with disabilities.
- Experience using online learning platforms, digital curriculum, LMS tools, or AI-supported educational tools.
- Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
Physical Requirements & Work Environment:
- Ability to effectively supervise and interact with students in classrooms, common areas, and outdoor spaces throughout the school day.
- Ability to move between classrooms, offices, common areas, and other campus locations as needed to perform assigned duties.
- Ability to occasionally lift, carry, move, or transport materials and equipment weighing up to 25 pounds.
- Ability to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.
